ABOUT THIS STAY

Overlooking northern Kyoto’s greenery,
one night away.

In July 2024, I stayed in Kyoto Takaragaike for about ¥16,000. Located in northern Kyoto, it felt convenient for arriving by car. These photographs show the greenery from the room and lounge.

When I returned in March 2025, the lounge had fewer food choices and there was no welcome gift, which was disappointing. There was no upgrade either, so I was less satisfied than on the first visit. The photographs below are from July 2024.

Some areas showed their age, but the lobby felt nostalgic and restful. On my first visit, all the staff were kind and explained things carefully.

My rate included breakfast, so I chose drinks as the welcome gift. I received Mio sake and konpeito sugar candy. Greenery and hills stretched beyond the windows.

Feeling a little hungry, I went to the ground-floor Club Lounge. At the time, cocktail-hour seating was limited to 45 minutes per group, which felt a little short.

I returned to the same lounge for breakfast and took a little of the Japanese dishes, bread and salad.
