On a road trip, I tried a Fairfield in the roadside-station series for the first time. I enjoyed food and shopping at Ajimu no Sato next door.

An evening arrival and warm miso soup.ARRIVAL & LOBBY

I arrived around 8 p.m. At check-in, staff carefully explained the facilities. Back in the lobby after the cold outdoors, the miso soup was so good that I had two cups.

The simple room reminded me of Osaka Station Hotel. I could see stars at night, and the next morning the window looked out on hills with patches of autumn color.

The washbasin, shower and toilet were beside the entrance. There was no bathtub, but there was a rain shower.

Food and shopping at the roadside station.AJIMU NO SATO

The katsu curry at Tanba Daishokudo was good, with crisp pork cutlet. The market had plenty to choose from and was fun to browse. The well-seasoned yuba and bamboo shoots with sansho went well with beer. I chose a local juice as my welcome gift.
